The Open Heavens Room

Autism is now affecting more than 1 in 54 school aged children, and many others are affected by other developmental disabilities such as fetal alcohol syndrome, etc. We believe the Church can and should respond in love and care for these precious kids and their families. This is a very close issue to our hearts at Christ’s Center as we have many children on the autism spectrum, and many others with other conditions that make structured environments very difficult. Of course, our hope is for all of our children to experience a Sunday with their parents and their peers, and many have been able to make that transition. But for those who can’t, we have the Open Heavens Room.
In 2012, we hired a professional caregiver to work with our kids every Sunday morning from 9:45 till the end of the service, giving their families a chance to enjoy the presence of God during Sunday School and the church service without the stress of worrying about their child. (We know first hand how stressful this can be for parents!) Our team is trained and ready to work with these children and to understand their individual needs.
The Open Heavens Room is currently located in the west wing of the building (ask someone if you can’t find it), we want to encourage you to join us, and to invite families of special needs kids. Together, as we heap love, wisdom and prayers upon these dear children, we believe there will come a day when we see “Heaven Opened;” where God’s peace and joy envelops them and they experience real breakthrough.
